Diesel grades for our climate zone:
Power plants and other machines suffer significantly from poor fuel quality in terms of performance and lifespan. Diesel fuel is sold with a quality passport that lists the following diesel characteristics in order to avoid such undesirable factors:
Cetane number (ignition rate) This parameter’s ideal value falls between 45 and 55. The wear of the motors is accelerated at lower cetane numbers, and as it increases, consumption also increases.
Fuel viscosity This indication describes the diesel’s fluidity, which is reflected in the fuel’s even combustion. Winter grades should have a viscosity of 1.8 to 5, while summer grades should fall between 3 and 6 cSt. Due to uneven combustion, high values of the indicator can lead to the deformation of powertrain assembly, and low viscosity lowers the quality of fuel pump lubrication.
Fractional composition By breaking the gasoline down into simpler parts, one can ascertain the fractional composition of the fuel. This characteristic alters the rate at which the diesel evaporates, which in turn alters when the fuel mixture is formed. At the same time, the fuel’s flammability is decreased by enhanced “volatility”. There is an ideal fractionation for each type of diesel engine.
Sulfur content A high sulfur content improves lubricity but also makes oil more oxidizable and affects the environmental performance of motors.
